Today the Georgia House of Representatives will consider SB 458,
legislation that would expand Georgia's voucher program and allow public
tax dollars to flow to private schools with little accountability. PAGE
strongly opposes this legislation.
SB 458 would allow students in systems that lose accreditation to use
vouchers to attend private schools or public schools in other school
systems. Students at schools on the Needs Improvement List for seven or
more consecutive years would be eligible to receive the vouchers. The
House version of SB 458 would also allow students at schools (barring
alternative schools and state schools for the deaf and blind) with
graduation rates of less than 50 percent to receive the public tax
dollars in the form of vouchers.
